Coat
All of the small animals will self-groom, but the rabbits particularly are prone to hairballs. This can be overcome by brushing the rabbit daily with a soft sisal brush.
All of the small animals if suitably tame can be bathed using a specially formulated shampoo ad warm water. It is best these pets are bathed during the warmer part of the day with plenty of time to dry. A towel dry is also advised. For a suitable shampoo for your small pet please ask our staff.

Nails
To trim the nails, a sharp pair of nail scissors or dog scissor style nail clippers can be used depending on the size of the pet.
Only the pointed hook of the nail should be trimmed.
In white nails this is easy to identify as the pink ‘quick' or the blood vessel of the nail sets the parameters. If this quick is accidentally cut, a clotting agent will need to be applied immediately. Please ask our staff for advice on how to use this.

Overgrown Teeth
Those species whose teeth continually grow (Rabbits, Rats, Mice and Guinea Pigs) are at risk of developing overgrown teeth.
This problem can be prevented by providing the pet with chewable objects such as branches from suitable trees, fibrous foodstuffs or by having your vet trim the teeth of your pet routinely.
