Lost and found, 18 months later

A Labrador has been returned to its owner some 18 months after originally going missing, much to the delight of his owner.

Dill went missing from his Dudley home in July 2005 and owner Debbie Brownhill posted his picture on a lost dog website in a bid to find her beloved pet. Incredibly, 18 months later, Dill was found by a walker and taken to a vet.

Ms Brownhill revealed how difficult it was to hide her jubilation when the news came that he'd been found.

"I was just screaming, it's been a phone call I had been waiting for 18 months, it was just absolutely fantastic," she said.

"It's just a total mystery where he has been and what he had been up to."

With some pet insurance policies offering help in the event of a beloved pet going missing, this case highlights the need to cover your family's furry friend. Vet fees are also included in many policies.

Following a check up by the local vet, Dill was given the all clear. The Lab had apparently been living in a field just eight miles away from home.

Clever canine sniffs out Class A drugs

An intelligent dog followed his nose to find a sizeable store of Class A drugs hidden in a park in Plymouth.

'The canine was walking with his owner when he sniffed out a back purse, which happened to contain more than $4000 worth of cocaine and a block of cannabis resin, the Plymouth Herald reports.'

Commenting on the discovery, investigating officer PC Paul Coppola told the publication: "I guess the dog should really be working for the police.

"It appears the purse may have been stashed in the parkland, or may have been dropped either on purpose or accidentally."

He added: "Either way, someone will not be happy at losing so much."

Meanwhile in Banbury, Police were delighted to receive a special gift from the Coach and Horses pub.

The establishment gave them its security dog Zeus, a trained drug-sniffing canine, who managed to unearth a narcotics stash on his first day with the force.

Dogs learn to dance

Disco dogs and waltzing canines are being trained to dance in by specialists in Wisconsin, US.

Feeling in the mood for dancing, handlers have been attending three day classes and the school at Army Lake Camp and Retreat Centre in East Troy.

And eager to sashay across the floor with their pooches, owners have been shelling out $375 each for the experience.

Explaining the way the moves are put together, Linda Blanchard a doggie dance instructor said: "You have to pick out music that goes with your dog.

"The dogs can do figure eights around your legs. They spin, and we spin. Sometimes they're on their hind legs. They can wave, do marching things, jump over things."

And the ambitious 59-year-old hopes that the pastime may become as highly regarded as ballroom dancing, she added: "There's Olympic-style scoring up to ten.

"The goal for this sport is to become an Olympic sport."
