Lucky Lulu survives eight days under blast rubble

A Denver dog has survived eight days trapped under rubble after an explosion, it has been reported.

Eight-month-old Lulu was rescued on Sunday after she was heard whimpering underneath the debris, according to the Summit Daily News.

A building that housed a dogsledding business was levelled on April 19th, critically injuring the pooch's owner Brian Mislanski.

Fire officials said they did not know the cause of the explosion but believed that it was not intentional.

However the Springer Spaniel was pulled from the wreckage and was taken to visit her human friend at St Anthony Central Hospital, who said he was "happy" she was ok.

Christine Murphy, the vet who examined the lucky pooch, told the publication that Lulu suffered from mild dehydration and had a slight injury to one of her eyes.

She added: "Considering what she went through, she looked great and was in very good spirits - she is definitely one tough cookie."

Dog rescues kangaroo

A dog has come to the rescue of a baby kangaroo.

The joey's mother had been hit by a car and killed in Victoria, Australia while it was in her pouch.

The furry little fellow would surely have died too had it not been for Rex.

The German short-haired pointer sniffed out the joey while on a walk with his owner and quickly retrieved it.

Leonie Allan, Rex's owner, said that when he started pointing, she was worried he had spotted a snake.

But when he dropped the little joey at her feet she realised that Rex had been on a rescue mission.

Since the incident, the four-month old joey has taken to Rex and the two have been playing together in Mrs Allan's back garden.

Pet teaches boy how to behave

A mother has spoken of how a pet dog helped the family deal with raising a severely disabled son, it has been reported.

Nuala Gardner, 39, has paid tribute to Henry - the Golden Retriever that helped her autistic son Dale, now 21, during a very difficult period of his life.

The mum told the Sun that her "monster" son was making her life a "living hell" as he was prone to throwing violent tempers while her husband and his father James, 49, worked away.

But all that changed when the arrival of the four-legged-friend taught Dale how to relate to his family.

Mrs Gardner told the publication: "We got Henry when Dale was five and the transformation was immediate.

"We discovered that if we spoke to Dale using Henry as a mouthpiece, Dale would respond. He would do almost anything his dog 'asked'.

"This was a turning point. Dale's progress went through the roof."
